The game is set in the universe previously established by the Batman: Arkham series, taking place months after the events of Batman: Arkham Knight. Amanda Waller (Debra Wilson) creates a task force known as the Suicide Squad, which is composed of Arkham Asylum inmates Harley Quinn (Tara Strong), Captain Boomerang, Deadshot and King Shark (Samoa Joe), for a covert mission in Metropolis.
Only when they arrive in the city do they realize the severity of the situation: Brainiac has invaded Earth and has started brainwashing its inhabitants, including Justice League members Superman, The Flash and Green Lantern, with Wonder Woman as the only apparent member who is not under Brainiac’s control. Unable to depend on any hero for help, it is up to the Suicide Squad to save the world by assassinating the Justice League and stopping Brainiac before they both destroy Metropolis, and, sooner or later, the rest of the world.
Rocksteady Studios has finally dropped the first gameplay trailer for their upcoming project, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League at The Game Awards 2021. The creators of the Batman Arkham franchise had previously showcased a story trailer at DC Fandome.
The trailer starts out with a phone recording of Captain Boomerang trash-talking members of the Justice League. Throughout his monologue he never mentions Batman, further confirming that this game is set in the same universe as the Arkhamverse. For the uninitiated, at the end of Batman Arkham: Knight (2015), our caped crusader sacrificed himself by burning down the Wayne manor. So, in this new Suicide Squad game, some of the incomplete or referred to storylines in the past will come to fruition.
